Milking

The goats are milked twice a day, everyday.
Milking times are 6 am and 5 pm.

The milking parlor is an efficient and animal friendly
room, with lots of natural light and air flow.

Each goat produces about
1 gallon of milk per day.
Milk production is a truly amazing process, with
the complex setup of secretory cells,
blood vessels, ducts and muscles.
400 gallons of blood flows through a
goat’s udder to produce 1 gallon of milk.

WOW!!! These critters are amazing!

The milk is piped directly through a filter,
chilled to 38 degrees F. and stored or used
that day for cheese making.
Cheese is made strictly from our goats milk.
Come visit Crystal Brook Farm to meet the goats.
You are welcome to come anytime on your own or plan a tour.

  • Fall is here!

The crisp morning air reminds us that we are in a place of movement. The change of seasons invigorates and moving into fall is one of the most invigorating. Colors of leaves take over the landscape, the blue sky is so blue, and even grasses take on a deep hue.

The goats' milk has a depth to it, also, as they continue to graze the hayfield. We're about half way down the field. The depth is particularly noticed in the sweeter cheeses, such as Cranberry Orange and Australian Ginger. Enjoy these cheeses with apples, pears, winter squash and stuffed peppers.

Farmers Markets remain in full swing. Fall crops are abundant. Start stocking up for the winter months. We continue to off our volume discount for cheese sales. Buy 4 or more goat cheeses and receive 10% off. Please place orders if you want a large quantity. email us at crystalbrookfarm@comcast.net at least 3 days before your market. See more about our market schedule under The Store:Farmers Markets. Visit us at the markets.

Coming to Sterling area to pick apples? Slip over to our farm and visit with the goats and pick up some cheese. Our ON-FARM Store is OPEN - Wednesday through Sunday, 7 am - 7 pm.
